    AmericanSingles.com

A problem with americansingles.com is it is NOT free to even VIEW those you have received emails FROM. You must pay a subscription fee just to see who emailed you, which I think stinks.  You should at least be able to view an email to see if you are interested in responding.

    Re: AmericanSingles.com

I am a seasoned internet dater. I've been finding dates on the Internet for about 7 years, through many of the internet dating sites. In the early days, American Singles was THE place to be. Now, it's the place to be deceived (or at least ONE of them).

About three years ago, I belonged and had a profile out there. I met someone that I was dating seriously, so I removed my profile. A couple months later, a friend told me that she had seen my profile. Hmmm.

I recently signed on with a temporary membership to see if there was anyone worthwhile there. If there had been, I would have joined. AmericanSingles.com send me email, suggesting some possible matches for me. One of them was someone that I had dated several years ago, and contacted through AmericanSingles. However, several years later, she hasn't aged at all, and other than a profile name change, the profile was the same. Looking carefully at her profile revealed that she hadn't logged in since 1999, but her profile changed in 2001. When I joined, I searched the profiles in my area, and hers didn't show up in that search.

When you join AmericanSingles, like most sites, you agree that they are allowed to use your profile for advertising purposes. What you don't realize is that they are going to use it FOREVER.

So, maybe that explains why you can write to the 'pretty people', but never get a response. That's because they don't exist. Now I'm not saying this is the case in all instances, just some of them. I have met some of the pretty people on these sites, but there are too many people that never respond.

Another thing that I noticed is that I had gotten 3 emails, which I would have to pay them money to see, but no one had reviewed my profile. Hmm, another interesting ite, Who was the email from? Probably AmericanSingles membership services.

you have hit the nail right on the head.  this is also the case with many of these sites.  i have deleted a few already.  free profile is just that - profile only- their way to make money.  a legal trap if u dont read all fine print..

    Re: AmericanSingles.com

i agree that the email is from membership services.  i paid in sevreal sites to find it was thanking me for signing up or denying my photo. and i have seen worse photos. another serious flaw is the matches American Singles sends are continuous repeats.  another flaw---one profile match was a guy i lived with several years ago for almost 2 years before going our separate ways.  several months ago he died of cancer-it was very fast-he was matched to me again and i let customer service know this- plus i have the obituary-they just recently matched me again with him. very depressing to see to say the least.

    Re: AmericanSingles.com

I had a free account with AmericanSingles about four years ago (been married three and a half, and met my husband on uDate). Even after over a year of being married, and trust me, NOT parti***ting in any dating activity, I received an email saying that my profile or my photo (cannot recall which) had been updated. I emailed them to tell them to remove me as I was now married. I also asked them who had updated me. No response. Hmmm. I think that I had posted a pic on there but cannot recall as I didn't truly parti***te in their site.

Weird, but after reading this topic, understandable.

    Re: AmericanSingles.com

I totaly agree with Sheila.  The sit should at lease let you see if your at least interested.  A lot of these sights make me sick.  It's giving me an idea to develope a more ligit dating sight that alouds you to do a little more before your about to charge someone.  I'am very rich and have a lot of extra cash not doing anything.  I might just make a cheaper sight thats less risky for people.  I'll really advertise all papers that allow, and even TV.  At least my money's doing something rather than sitting in 50 different banks around the country doing nothing.  I'd do this out of the kindness of my heart not expecting to make a profit.  As long as the site pays for its self.  I'am single too and it's hard for even me ligit people out there.  Hang in there people.  Help will be on it's way.  I've already gone to internet siminars to learn how to operate such a sight.
